Be Supportive
There are four kinds of teachers. First, there are Traditionalists who have high expectations for their students but are cold and do not build relationships with them. Secondly, there are Sophisticates who demand little from their students and do not make an impact on their learning. Third, there are Sentimentalists who are kind to students but do not challenge them. Finally, there are Warm Demanders who build relationships with students while challenging them (Goodwin & Hubbell, 2013). Clearly the goal is to become a Warm Demander, but how can a teacher work towards that goal? In this section Goodwin and Hubbell explain how a teacher can get there.
